I joined a challenge in January to write a poem a day for a year. To say that it has actually been challenging is an understatement. So, l’ve been doing a lot of prompts. One of those was to write a poem that directly references my favorite play.
Without going into details on WHY it’s my favorite play or posting the resulting poem (it’s been submitted), I will share the new form I came up with as a response to the piece refusing to conform to a traditional sonnet framework. Each of the first five numbers of π (3.1415) represent the number of iambic pentameter lines in a stanza with the decimal point being a single monosyllabic word. All stanzas are end stopped. The rhyme scheme is ABA. B ABAB C DCDCD and the decimal word can either be A or B.
If anyone tries this form, I’d love to see the result!
